Community Update:

Ciao Soldiers, Are you ready to return to battle? So, you think you're something with that mandolin, do ya? Well, trade it in for that Breda assault rifle, 'cause you're going to need it. They say all roads lead to Rome... well, we're about to see how true that is. The Battlefield 1942: The Road to Rome expansion pack will introduce two new armies: the French Free Forces (no, they don't just surrender) and the Italian Army. There are 6 new maps, 8 new vehicles, and 3 new hand weapons. Here?s a breakdown of what you?ll get in the Road to Rome expansion:

6 NEW MAPS

  • Operation Husky - The Allies mount a beachhead assault against the Axis on the shores of Italy. Unlike Omaha beach, the Axis will be a bit harder pressed to contain the Allied forces as the beach is wider and easier to capture. This will afford the Allies quick access to M3 Grants and an APC. The X-Factor for the Axis will be their lone BF 110, attacking from the air.
  • Operation Baytown - Steep roads and a river in the middle of the battlefield will make attacking the other side difficult for both forces. Both sides will rely on skillful pilots to bomb the opposing forces to push them back, and air drop behind enemy lines.
  • Battle of Anzio - Both the Axis and Allies will have to mix a strategy of quick attack and stalwart defense in order to break the other side. Set on the bluffs of a river, troops on each side will have to keep their heads on a swivel as attacks can come from anywhere; a Sturmgeschutz in front, or a M3 Grant across the river, or maybe a BF 110 from above.
  • Battle of Salerno
  • Monte Cassino
  • Monte Santa Croche
  • 8 NEW VEHICLES

  • German Sturmgeschutz - A new heavy tank with a secondary machine gunner position. The machine gunner also has a shield giving him limited protection from frontal attacks.
  • German BF110 - A new medium bomber - Faster than the B17 but slower than a fighter plane, this bomber can deliver quite a devastating payload in the hands of a capable pilot.
  • German AT gun PAK 40 - These new stationary cannons will send your enemies running for cover, but don?t forget to protect them - they may not always respawn.
  • US M3 GMC - Drive to the battlefield in style with new half-track with a driver operated cannon mounted on top, and a spot for one passenger and a rear gunner.
  • US M3 Grant
  • British Mosquito
  • British AT gun 25 pounder
  • Italian M11-39 Carro Armato
  • 3 NEW HAND WEAPONS

British Sten Machinegun

Bayonet - Engineer rifle only

Oh, yeah... did we forget to mention its $19.99 MSRP? You won't even have to pawn that mandolin to pick up The Road to Rome! Arrivederci,
