After many months of development, Who Dares Wins 0.2 was released on Wednesday of last week - and boy, what a week it's been! The 0.21 patch swiftly followed on from it, and we have seen that the response from the community at large has been generally very pleasing, and we had record numbers of downloads of the client version, as well as online players.

So, where do we go from here?

Firstly, while we did everything in our power to ensure the release went as smoothly as possible, we'd be the first to admit that there are a number of bug issues with 0.2

Many of you playing online will have noticed three main problems - maps crashing to desktop (CTDs) once they have loaded, lag on some maps, and the infamous Ka-50 "Hokum" glitch on the Ulus-Kert map (more on this shortly!)

Needless to say, we are committed to resolving these issues as swiftly as possible, and the team is busy at work developing fixes, with the help of some community members (thanks guys!)

It is our aim to release a further patch shortly which will hopefully address all these issues once and for all...however, until that time, we recommend that WDW server admins remove the following maps from their rotation lists with immediate effect, to keep the gameplay as free-flowing as possible!

Conquest mode

* Tora Bora (map CTD)
* Qala-I-Jangi Prison (map CTD)
* Iranian Embassy Siege (lag issues)

There is also a known bug with Western Desert in Single Player mode, so until we fix this, try not to play it!

As to the "Hokum" disconnect bug on the Ulus-Kert map, this is also a known issue, and we are looking resolve this ASAP - those of you that have played the map in SP/Coop will know just how devastating this aircraft can be - it makes short work of ground troops with its lethal arsenal of AG weaponry! Once we have fixed the problems, expect a patch which will ensure that Chechen forces have to learn to become proficient with AA rockets and the ZU-23 cannon or face the consequences!

A number of you have noticed that many of the sounds are still stock BF effects - the good news we have for you that these are now in the process of being changed...the talented Cees of the excellent Warfront team, has volunteered to take some time out from his busy modding schedule to work on WDW audio - you can expect great things from him, which will once again find their way into our forthcoming patch! We are delighted to see this level of skill-sharing amongst mod teams - this kind of cross-pollenation of skills can only be a good thing for the community!

We are also working to address the lag issues on the Mogadishu, Iranian Embassy Siege, Marseilles Airport and Seychelles Coup maps - all these feature some very large custom static objects (like Jetliners and vast buildings) - you can count on us to optimise and get these sorted shortly!

On another note, some of you mentioned the handling of the dirtbike on the Tora Bora and Victor 2 maps - Megaraptor worked extremely hard to code it within the limitations of the BF1942 engine, which as I'm sure most of you will appreciate is geared up to 4 wheel and tracked vehicles, as opposed to 2 wheeled ones...once again, we will be taking another look at this, with a view to it providing a better ride to the action!

The forthcoming patch will also feature new content in the shape of maps, and numerous tweaks to make the gameplay even better!

Needless to say, we should mention what will be happening in the light of the imminent release of Battlefield 2 from EA/DiCe and Trauma Studios - like pretty much the entirety of the BF community, we are extremely excited about this launch, and feel that the developers have really listened to modding teams to create a supportive environment for the generation of awe-inspiring mods! We feel that is is more than likely that BF2 will take the mechanised combat format we love so much to the next level and provide a benchmark for online combat! It's gonna be an exciting time for dev teams everywhere!

WDW will undoubtedly move over to BF2 to establish itself as the premier Spec Ops mod, but we have no intention of letting our support for BF1942 dwindle immediately - we have already mentioned a new patch that will bring improved stability and content to the mod!

So what happens if you want to contribute to the continued development of WDW?

Well, we are always looking for talented individuals to help out with all aspects of mod development, though we are particularly interested right now in coders, skinners, modellers and animators! If you think you can becpme a valued member of the team - pop down to our forums and show us what you can do!

Likewise, we are always on the hunt for good servers to host WDW, so if you'd like to run our mod on your "box", come speak to us and we'll help you any way we can! So far, special mention should go to XsT Clan and its admin Clone Commmander, who have been tireless in helping us, as well as the DFSC Clan, and many others around the gaming world!

If you aren't a modder or server host, then you can always help us by joining those who have already downloaded and enjoyed the mod!

Finally, thanks to all the players, server hosts, files sites, and of course, the mod team, over the last week - it's been a blast! See you on the battlefield!
