  1. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we are showing of our third Eastern Front map, and also our first map from the Continuation War: Sammatus. This map is based on sn00x's Kuuterselkä, and has been worked on by Kev4000, Schism-RVTL and Fuchswiesel.

After securing the crossing of the river Syväri in East-Karelia, the Red Army advanced towards the Finnish Pisi-Saarimäki-Sammatus line. The PSS-line was adequately prepared to face the formidable adversaries, but sections of the defences were still unfinished. On 23rd of June 1944, the Red Army conducted an amphibious landing at Tuulos on the shores of lake Ladoga just north of the PSS-line and on the 24th the fighting at the line itself commenced.

The Red Army managed to puncture a hole in the Finnish defences at Pisi. With the dire situation at Tuulos, Major General Aarne Blick gave the order to withdraw and abandon the PSS-line in order to avoid any Finnish troops getting trapped in the pocket. However, the message didn't reach the defenders of Sammatus until a day later...

  2. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we have a couple of renders showcasing some equipment that you will be able to find on our upcoming map Pegasus, as well as an announcement from the guys over at Forgotten Honor. You might perhaps have seen them in the stream, which is available on Youtube. They are of course the Sten Mk.V and the SOMUA S35.

    Somua.gif

Although French military thinking called for a defensive war, they recognised the need to be able to fight on the offensive as well. This job fell to the Cavalry, who in 1931 placed a request for a fast tank. By 1934, the request had been updated to be immune from contemporary anti tank guns. The Société d'Outillage Mécanique et d'Usinage d'Artillerie, or SOMUA for short, produced a series of prototypes in 1935, with an order for 50 following the next year.

The tank was one of the first to make use of large cast sections for the hull, and was also fitted with the cast APX-1 turret from the Infantry's Char B1. The 47mm SA35 gun was more than able to defeat the PzIII and BT-7, and these contemporaries couldn't hope to harm the S35 in return. There were however several problems with the S35 that stopped it from being a war winner. It was expensive and time consuming to make, it had poor mechanical reliability, and the turret was both single manned and had no openable cupola, forcing the overworked commander to fight buttoned up.

After the fall of France, about 100 S35 tanks were in Vichy hands while nearly 300 were captured by the Germans. Many of these captured tanks were put into service as Pz 35-S 739(f), where they served in Finland, Yugoslavia and a few were to be found in Normandy. Although hopelessly outclassed by 1945, 12 were still in use at the start of the year. The S35 was made by Seth Soldier, and was repainted for German use by Gurdy.

    Sten_MKV.gif

The Mk.V version of the Sten was little more than a better quality Mk.II with some cosmetic additions. A wooden stock and pistol grip replaced the steel skeleton stock, new front sights taken from the No.4 rifle were added and a rather flimsy wooden front handhold was clipped to the barrel shroud. Our Sten Mk.V was made by KittyThePwner, who modified the original Mk.II model made by Hail of Nails and Seth Soldier.

  3. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we'd like to make a short announcement. This coming Sunday, there will be a live stream in which Ts4EVER and FatJoe will show off one of our as yet unannounced new maps. There will be some discussion of map design, historical info and maybe a sneak peek of some new equipment. The map is set somewhere and somewhen on the Western Front.

The stream will be hosted on FatJoe's Twitch channel on:

    Sunday 11th January 2015 @ 18:00 UTC

We hope that you can watch it all live with us, but if not you will be able to watch it afterwards on Twitch.

  4. Es kommt manchmal auch drauf an WIE man etwas sagt:

    Hi guys

WHY is the Jagdpanzer V "Jagdpanther" called

    JagDPanther V huh.gif

    big.jpg

Why did you make the "D" and the "P" in big letters ?
Why do you create new tanks with your fantasy, a Jagdpanther V never excisted, there was only 1 Jagdpanther Version so far I know.

Or could it maybe be a mistake of yours ?
I guess you are doing checks and tests at your developement work, at least I think about that when you need nearly 1 year to create a new patch. So how is it possible, you let something like that in the FH2 list ? Was there nobody who realised it ?

Sure, the making of the jagdpanther modell was a very long work, (but it ain't honestly the most beautiful FH2 model), I guess, about months, so how can this happen, that Toddel don't take some SECONDS to see he entitled it wrong ?

Next question, I guess Toddel is not the guy who uploaded it here: http://fh2mod.de/fh2_vehicles.php?country=1&type=1 The guy who ever did that, why did he also not realise it ?

Final main question: It's there for about 3 years now, does anybody care ? Seems so ! Does it speak for 100% quality of FH2 ? Definately not ....

Wenn man sich wie der letzte Assi aufführt muss man sich nicht wundern wenn Leute einen rausschmeißen.

Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Before we begin, the whole team would like to thank our fans for all their support, and to wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

    teddy_xmas.gif

This time hiding away under the tree, is a render of a vehicle that brought destruction from the sky. The Junkers Ju 87 G-1, also know as the Kanonenvogel.

    stukag1.jpg

The large numbers of Soviet tanks that had shown up on the Eastern Front had lead to the requirement for dedicated antitank aircraft. The first such design was the Henschal Hs 129, but while it proved a potent weapon, it had large and vulnerable fuel tanks and a replacement was requested.

It was decided to further develop the Ju 87, arming it with 30mm cannon and providing more armour. The Stuka ace Hans-Ulrich Rudel had had some success at killing Soviet tanks with 20mm cannon, and suggested using two 37mm Flak 18 guns in external pods as a primary armament. First flown in January 1943 on a converted D-1, the Bordkanone BK 3,7 would prove to be a lethal tank killer in the hands of Rudel and other Stuka aces.

Our Kanonenvogel (cannon bird) was made by K98, AceS and Herc.

  6. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we would like to show you a render featuring the M1938 and M1944 Mosin-Nagant carbines, but before we get to that it's that time of year again...

No, not Christmas. It's voting time for the ModDB Mod of the Year 2014, and FH2 has made it to the Top 100 again. We'd like to say a big thank you to our fans for voting us this far, and we hope that you will vote for us in the Top 100 round as well.

    carbines.jpg

The adoption of the M91/30 rifle gave the Red Army a modern and dependable rifle. However, they were still using the M1907 carbines, which had been out of production since before the revolution and were based on the older M1891 rifle. The design for the new M38 carbine was finally accepted for production in February 1939. It was essentially the same as the M91/30, with a shortened barrel and stock, a rear sight graduated to only 1000 metres and a slightly modified front sight mounting.

The carbines were issued to artillerymen, engineers and other soldiers who while not front line troops may have need of a rifle. In this case, it was not felt that a bayonet was needed, and so the M38 carbine was not issued with one and was designed not to accept the M91/30 bayonet. However, the fierce close quarters combat of urban battles such as Stalingrad demanded a smaller and more convenient weapon. The M44 was born out of the simple brief to make an M38 with a bayonet.

The bayonet of the M44 is a permanently attached folding spike. The M38 stock was modified with a groove to accept the bayonet when folded, but beyond this there were no changes. By 1944, many M38 carbines were fitted with M44 stocks. While the M44 was in production since 1943, it never reached the desired level of issue, and saw most of it's action post-war. These Mosin-Nagant carbines were made by Seth Soldier.

  7. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we have an announcement from the guys over at Forgotten Honor as well as a render and a few screenshots of some equipment that has been provided by allies or stolen from enemies. But before we begin, we have a short message.

We are always looking for more help. At the moment we are particularly in need of people who can do animations or sounds, however if you think you can help us in some other way don't hesitate to apply. More information on the application process can be found here.

    mkiii_ru.jpg

Within 3 months of the start of Operation Barbarossa, the first British aid to the Soviet Union had been delivered. The Arctic Convoys carried aircraft, raw materials and tanks. Starting in 1942, the Soviets were provided with 301 Churchill tanks, of which 43 were lost before they arrived. Trials conducted with the newly arrived tanks showed mechanical problems, and the opinion of these new tanks was low.

    uc_ru.jpg
    m3a1e1_sc.jpg

The Soviets received 2008 Universal Carriers from Britain and Canada. They were primarily issued to scout and reconnaissance units. While they were provided along with Bren guns and Boys rifles, these were often replaced with domestic weapons. About 3300 M3A1E1 Scout Cars were provided to the Soviets. This was a modification of the standard design, fitted with a Soviet made Buda-Lanova diesel engine. They were used as reconnaissance, command and prime mover vehicles.

In most cases the vehicles recieved kept the paint schemes that they arrived wearing, with Soviet identifying markings added on top.

    t34_ru.jpg

The Germans captured a great number of T-34 tanks during their advances into the Soviet Union. A great many of these were pressed into service, both before and after receiving modifications (most usually fitting cupolas from damaged Pz III or IV). Since using the same shaped tank as the enemy is a risky move, the T-34s were painted with many large visible crosses.

This is just some of the new captured and lend lease equipment in Forgotten Hope 2.

  8. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we have a rather important update for you. We would like to announce that the first Eastern Front map to feature in the next update will be Dukla Pass.

Unlike most of our previous maps, the announcement of Dukla Pass may not come completely as a surprise to many of you. Ts4EVER, who created it, has also kept a blog of his progress. You can read it here: An Error Has Occurred!

    dukla_1.jpg
    dukla_2.jpg
    dukla_4.jpg
    dukla_5.jpg

On the 8th of September 1944, elements of the 1st and 4th Ukrainian Front began an offensive through the Carpathian mountains with the aim of gaining their first foothold in Slovakia and supporting a resistance uprising there. What was supposed to take a handful of days dragged out into many weeks as Soviet forces ran up against stiff resistance from the 1st Panzer Army and 1st Hungarian Army. On the 25th of October, a major tank battle broke out in the valleys west of the village of Dobroslava, as Soviet forces tried to outflank remaining German positions. The fighting was fierce enough that the area came to be known as The Valley of Death.

  9. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we have yet another render of a Soviet aircraft. This time, we will be showing you the Lavochkin La-5FN fighter.

    LA5FN_1.jpg
    LA5FN_2.jpg

The Lavochkin-Gorbunov-Gudkov LaGG-1 was a 1938 design for a lightweight fighter built from laminated wood. The design was promising, and Soviet aircraft losses in the Winter War led to it being placed into production. In the field, it was found to be underpowered, and improvements led to the LaGG-3. While this was a better aircraft, it still had many problems and was not liked. Eventually, factories were switched to production of the rival Yak-1 and Yak-7.

    LA5FN_cockpit.jpg

The La-5 began life as an unofficial experiment to mount the powerful radial ASh-82 engine onto the LaGG-3, using the nose section on the Su-2. The prototype flew in March 1942, and was found superior to the Yak-7. Stalin ordered the La-5 into production in July.

The La-5FN was a further refinement of the design, and while it suffered at high altitudes, in the more common low altitude combat on the Eastern Front, it proved a worthy match to the Luftwaffe's fighters. 9,920 La-5 of all types were produced, and ours was made by Kr?tzer, with a cockpit by Fred.

  10. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we have a render and screenshots of perhaps the most famous Soviet aircraft of the war: the Ilyushin Il-2.

    il2.jpg

The most produced military aircraft of all time, the Il-2 started life in 1938 with the design of the TsKB-55 by the team of Sergey Ilyushin. This two seat aircraft incorporated an armoured shell that protected the engine, fuel tank, radiators and crew. To save weight, the armour was a part of the load bearing stucture of the aircraft, but even with this it was overweight. Redesigned as a single seater, and powered with a newer Mikulin AM-38 engine optimised for low altitudes, the Il-2 was accepted into service in March 1941.

    cockpit.jpg

The rear gunner returned as an answer to heavy losses to fighters, first as a field improvisation and then in a 1943 redesign. While the rear gun proved effective, the casualty rate for gunners was high, since they were outside the protection of the armour plates. The extra weight also reduced the handling of the aircraft.

    berezin.jpg

In the role of ground attack, the Il-2 was an intimidating prospect. While it suffered from poor bombing accuracy and low bomb load, its armour made it a difficult target to bring down. The accuracy was somewhat improved with PTAB shaped charge bomblets, of which the Il-2 could carry up to 192. These could penetrate the top armour of any tank on the battlefield, and were dropped in the millions.

36,183 Il-2 were produced during the war, and ours was made by Agus, with a cockpit by Fred and Berezin UBT by Agus.

  11. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we have a render of our final new weapon in 2.46, the MP34(ö):

    MP_34.jpg

The S1-100 was based on a Rheinmetall design similar to the Bergmann MP18. In the aftermath of the Treaty of Versailles, Rheinmetall was forced to buy the Swiss company Waffenfabrik Solothurn in 1929 and work on the prototype there in secret. The S1-100 was a sound weapon, but Solothurn was ill suited to mass produce it. To solve this, Rheinmetall bought a controlling stake in Austrian Waffenfabrik Steyr, and produced the design as the Steyr-Solothurn S1-100 for commercial and military markets.

The MP34 was the designation given to the S1-100 chambered in 9x25mm Mauser upon its adoption by the Austrian Army (the police adopted it as the MP30). Following the 1938 Anschluss, these weapons were acquired by the German Army, and a number were re-chambered for 9x19mm ammunition as the MP34(ö).

A solid weapon made from high quality materials, the MP34(ö) was a poor design for war production, and mid 1940 saw it replaced in production by the simpler MP40. It had only a short combat life in the early days of the war, mostly with the poorly equipped Waffen SS units. When large numbers of the MP38/40 appeared, it was relegated to second line units. Our MP34(ö) was made by Sorken.

Next up, we'd like to list some of the changes in version 2.46:

    2 New maps:

        Omaha Beach
        Gold Beach

    5 New vehicles:

        BMW R75
        Marder III Ausf M
        Churchill Crocodile
        Churchill AVRE
        LCVP

    2 New stationary weapons:

5"/38 caliber gun (Gleaves Class Destroyer)
        Panzerturm (Hotchkiss H39)

    3 New weapons:

        MP34(ö)
        Gewehr 41(W)
        Bangalore Torpedo

    Many further changes, including:

All tanks updated to the simplified projectile collision system
        New Communication Rose
        Changes to Artillery Spotting
        Many changes to existing maps

To see the full list of changes to existing maps, you can find posts by Gavrant in the Feedback Section of the forums.

  12. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today, we'd like to show off a rather important change to the way that you will start and update FH2. Firstly though, we'd like to show a fan made trailer for version 2.46, created by the talented JMLigthart:

New to 2.46 is the FH2 Launcher, which has been made, tested and refined by Gavrant, Mayhemic.MAD and Spitfire.

    launch_01.jpg

The new launcher provides several useful services, but the most useful is the built in update engine, that can check for and then download new versions of FH2 automatically. The download will restart from where it left off in the case it is interrupted. Broken your FH2 installation? Don't worry, the same torrent engine can repair it too! For those of you with custom maps, the launcher will leave these alone.

You can select which game account you'd like to login with, as well as the number of bots for singleplayer. The launcher also allows you to manage your game without having to use the ingame settings page. You can change the audio and video settings without needing to restart the game afterwards.

    Pre-Release Downloads

For those of you who want to jump straight into the action on Friday, we have a pre-release download containing all the files you will need. The password to extract and install 2.46 from this download will be released on the website on Friday. You will need a bittorrent program to download the torrent file, many of these can be downloaded for free.
