Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

It might not come as much of a surprise to those of you who have read the title of this update, but Forgotten Hope 2 version 2.46 will be released later this week on:

    Friday 11th April 2014 @ 18:00 UTC

Although this come over a year and a half after the release of 2.45, we hope that the new maps, weapons and vehicles as well as the changes that we have made to the existing content will make up for this. While we have announced both of the maps - Omaha Beach and Gold Beach - in this distinctly D-Day themed update, we still have a few items of interest to tell you about in the coming days.

We would also like to give a special thank you to our beta testing team. Without their continued support and dedication, there would be no FH2 as we know it.

Finally, as if the news of the next version wasn't exciting enough, we also have a few screenshots to show of the new communications rose that will be featured in version 2.46.

    rose_sl.jpg

As you can see, it is a lot simpler in layout to the current version, which should mean that it is much easier to use in life and death situations. You might notice that some of the buttons have two commands; you can activate the alternative options by either left or right clicking.

    rose_spot.jpg

Finally, you might notice that when you have the ability to spot for artillery, you will have two blue commands available. You can use these to give the artillerists a better idea of what you want them to do. Want that antitank gun pinning your squad down taken out? You better spot for high explosives. Your spot will be marked on everyone's minimap, so that your teammates will know to keep clear:

    arty_he.jpg

Or maybe you need some smoke cover to cross that open field. An empty spot might have been overlooked by the artillery before, but when they see the smoke icon they'll know what you wanted:

The new communications rose was made by Malsa, Gavrant and Spitfire, with the update to the artillery spotting provided by Gavrant.

  2. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we have some news concerning a three-wheeler: the BMW R75! Firstly though, we have some news concerning this years Mod of the Year awards:

It is once again come around to the annual Mod of the Year Awards, and Forgotten Hope 2 has made it into the top 100 released mods again. We'd like to thank all our fans for voting for us once again. Go here if you'd like to vote for us in the second round. There are still two days left to vote.

    BMW_R_75.jpg

The R75 started life as an answer to a request from the Wehrmacht for a motorbike designed with the rigours of the battlefield in mind. It was powered by a 750cc engine that delivered enough power to get the R75 to 95 km/h. The sidecar was provided with a powered wheel and heating, and could mount a machinegun for defence.

Production started in late 1940, and the R75 was soon in use on the Eastern Front and in North Africa. It was found to be particularly resilient to the desert, where the configuration of the engine meant that it was cooled more effectively and the shaft drive was less susceptible to dust than a chain.

Despite this reliability the rival Zündapp KS 750 was found to be the better machine, and an agreement was reached that saw the two motorbikes share nearly 70% of their components, with the aim of phasing out the R75. This never quite happened, and the R75 remained in production through to the end of the war with 16510 delivered. Ours was made by Zero and Stubbfan.

  3. ello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

We know that it has been some time since we last had a news update, and we'd like to thank our fans for being patient. To help make up for this, we'd like to use this update to announce the first new map coming to the next patch.

That map of course is Gold Beach. This beach landing map was brought to you by the work of Beregil and Schism.

On the morning of the 6th of June 1944, the 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division landed on the beaches between the Normandy towns of Le Hamel and Ver sur Mer. The code name given to this landing ground was Gold Beach. Opposing the landing was the 716th Static Infantry Division, formed from Germans unfit for the Eastern Front and conscripts from occupied nations. The initial bombardment and the support of the "Funnies" from the 79th Armoured Division led to the creation of a beachhead six miles wide and deep by the end of the day.

  4. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 devblog. You may have noticed that there was quite a pause after the last one, but we are glad to report that we are officially back in business and working hard on the next patch.

Today we have some ingame screenshots of new equipment, as well as a new map to show you.

The first new tank is the Churchill AVRE (Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers). As the name suggests, this conversion of the heavy Churchill infantry tank was designed to support during engineering operations. To this end it was equipped with a 290mm Spigot mortar, which shot a huge projectile called the "Flying dustbin". The gun was able to destroy bunkers and clear obstacles from a safe distance.
Ingame you can use it to blow breachers in antitank barriers, creating new avenues of approach for the attacking British forces.

    mm6e.jpg
    qcdc.jpg

The second Churchill conversion is the Churchill crocodile, which mounted a flamethrower instead of the hull mg. This will make it extremely useful for clearing out bunkers or trench lines ingame. The Churchill tanks were made by Toddel.

Both new tanks will be used on an upcoming map by Schism-Rvtl, which will be shown in more detail in a later news update. Have fun speculating until then.

  6. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we are showing off a render of the most well know Soviet artillery piece: the BM-13 "Katyusha".

    Katyusha.jpg

In mid 1938, the Jet Propulsion Research Institute of Leningrad was ordered to develop a mobile mount for the launching of multiple RS-132 aircraft rockets. The eventual winning design consisted of 16 launch rails attached to a simple frame that could be moved to aim at the target. The nickname "Katyusha" came from a popular wartime song of the same title.

Initially shunned by the artillery branch because of their long reload time and low sustained fire rate, they were ordered into mass production following successful combat trials. While not as accurate as normal artillery, the launchers had several advantages. The noise and effect caused fear amongst the German's, who knew the weapon as "Stalin's Organ". They were also cheaper to make and required less complex machinery than howitzers.

The BM-13, and its derivatives the smaller BM-8 and larger BM-30 were mounted on a wide variety of trucks and in a wide variety sizes. Initially, ZiS-5 and ZiS-6 trucks were favoured, but the BM-13 design was soon standardised onto the newly available Lend-Lease Studebaker US6. Our Katyusha and Studebaker were made by Toddel.

  7. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we have a render of the Finnish Suomi KP/-31 submachinegun, as well as a quick announcement from the World at War tournament.

    suomi.jpg

In 1921 Aimo Lahti had taken it upon himself to design a cheaper alternative to the Bergmann M/20. The Army showed some interest in the designs and placed orders for a small number. What would later be called the KP/-26 had several problems, and the KP/-31 was Lahti's answer to these faults.

The KP/-31 was a reliable and accurate, if somewhat heavy weapon. The long barrel and low recoil gave it a longer effective range than other submachineguns of the time. Somewhat unusually, the barrel and shroud were easy to remove and switch with a spare, useful for a weapon with such a high rate of fire. The original magazines were somewhat problematic: the 20 round box was too small and the 40 round drum was heavy and hard to fill. These were gradually replaced by a larger capacity 70 round drum and the rarer 50 round "coffin" box magazines.

After February 1943, the KP/-31 was fitted with a large muzzle brake to counteract muzzle climb, and this can be seen on our model. Approximately 50,000 KP/-31s were manufactured for Finland, of which about half had the SJR muzzle brake. There were also 2 variants: 500 weapons modified for use in bunkers, and 40 four use as hull guns in Vickers 6-ton tanks. Our KP/-31 was made by Seth Soldier.

  8. Hello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we have a render of one of the many rifles used by the Finnish soldier throughout the Second World War: the M/39 "Ukko-Pekka"

    ukko_pekka.jpg

Following independence from Russia, Finland had been left with many thousands of M1891 Mosin Nagants, and rather than develop entirely new weapons, simply adapted these weapons for their own use. The desire to develop improvements on the original design, and differing ideas on what should be included, led to the Army's M/27 and the Civil Guard's M/28-30 rifles.

By the mid 30's, the Army had realised that many of its M/27 were poorly made, and that a newer rifle was needed. They were, however, unwilling to adopt the M/28-30, and called for the development of a newer weapon. An attempt was made with the M/91-35, but this proved to be too inaccurate. Eventually, it was decide to base the new rifle on the M/28-30. The final design of the new M/39 was completed by February 1939, but the outbreak of the Winter War delayed production such that the Army only started to receive them in 1941.

The nickname "Ukko-Pekka" was derived from former president Pehr Evind Svinhufvud, and means "Old Man Pete." The M/39 rifle was made by Seth Soldier.

  9. vHello and welcome back to another Forgotten Hope 2 update.

Today we have two of renders featuring some equipment that you are sure to find useful on the battlefield.

    finnequip.jpg

The puukko is a type of small cutting knife that is traditionally carried by the Finnish. Designed for everyday tasks such as wood carving and the preparation of caught fish and game, the knife has also found much use in the various wars fought by the Finnish army. This diminutive but deadly knife was made by Seth Soldier.

The M32 stick grenade is an offensive hand grenade very similar in design to the German M24 grenade. The main differences were the use of an impact fuse instead of the German friction igniter, the design retained the belt-hook of older German grenade designs, and that the M32 is shorter than the M24.

The Finnish were aware of the German tactic of wiring extra heads to their grenades to make powerful anti-tank grenades, and decided that they needed a custom made design. While many designs were made in the field, there were also factory made weapons. These were 2, 3 and 4 kg charges using M32 and M24 stick grenade fuses, and were effective against most Soviet armoured vehicles.

The M32 grenade was made by Seth Soldier and modified into a 4 kg satchel charge by Kraetzer.

    tm35nr.jpg

The TM-35 was a Soviet anti-tank mine used on the Eastern Front. It was a simple square metal box that could contain up to 2.8 kg of explosives. A tank driving over the mine pressed down on the top plate, which removed a pin from the firing mechanism via a simple seesaw action. This mine was made by Seth Soldier.

  10. Sunny side up

FH2 has its share of gritty, gloomy maps. But sometimes you just want to get out your butterfly net and stroll around on a sunny meadow or along a warm, mediterranean beach. If you are in vacation mood, this devblog might be something for you!

    Crete

    Graphics

Due to its unique gameplay, Crete was a fan favourite in both FH1 and FH2. Graphically however, it was not Forgotten Hope's finest hour, so Natty sat down and gave it a long overdue facelift. Take a look:

    cr8.th.jpg

    Gameplay

There also have been several gameplay changes. Some allied aa guns have been removed, to make it easier to land troops on the island. The rearguard flag was deleted to focus and tighten gameplay and several flags have been reworked to make their gameplay more interesting, especially Maleme airfield.

    cr21x.th.jpg

    cr32r.th.jpg

These changes will breathe new life into a Forgotten Hope evergreen.

    Falaise Pocket

    Graphics:

This map was introduced in Forgotten Hope 2.2 and has already received a facelift before. Now we are proud to show you its latest and last iteration, made by Remdul:

    fl3zc.th.jpg

    fl12.th.jpg

    Gameplay:

The map has received a thorough gameplay overhaul in addition to the great new graphics. The map was converted into a sector push map. The Germans first have to capture the church and the destroyed battery, followed by the first two flags in St. Lambert. The last sector consists of the St. Lambert west flag and the former Canadian mainbase. The Germans will not stop to bleed until all sectors are cleared, so aggressive tactics and teamwork are a must!

    fl14p.th.jpg

    fl16.th.jpg

Luckily, the Germans also bring a new toy into the fray: The StuH42 is a Stug III that has been fitted with a 105mm howitzer. It has all the fire power of a howitzer without the sitting back in the main base part!

    fl18d.th.jpg

That's all for now, but stay tuned for more map updates!

  11. Cobra re-visited

Featuring a lot of tanks and airplanes, Operation Cobra is one of the most played FH2 maps. However, we figured that it needed improvement in certain areas, so the map received a complete overhaul by Natty.

    New terrain and lighting

Some of the changes are graphical. The map has received eye-popping new lighting settings, as well as new textures and vegetation. But don't take our word for it:

    Sector Push

In 2.45, Operation Cobra will feature a semi-sector push mode. Gone are the days when a lonely back capper in a jeep could ruin everyone's day by driving back to farm or water mill: Once these two flags are captured, the fight moves on into the city!

    Improved city

The city and its environs have also received a much-needed overhaul. New routes have been opened for the sneaky infantry player and tanks will find the streets of Herbecrévon a lot more enjoyable to navigate. The airfield has also been completely reworked, adding cover for spawning players and tanks and making it a lot more appealing visually. On top of that, a new flag named “Crossroads” has been added in the north, making the fight for the city more dynamic.

    c8bqiod.png

    c14mlcjg.png

    c20kjdsq.png

    c26icipz.png

    Balance changes and new toys

When the Germans lose all flags in 2.4, it is almost impossible for them to come back into the fight. In 2.45, the Allies will have to face a formidable German counter attack, consisting of Panthers, Stug IVs and more planes. However, the Germans bleed fast, so get a move on, soldier!

The Americans don't come into the fight empty handed either. They now use the better armored M4A3 Sherman variant, allowing them to have a more sporting chance against the panzers. And for those of you who always thought 75mm was kind of wimpy, some of them have been fitted with a 105mm howitzer, allowing you to effectively support infantry and to clear out buildings and fortifications with ease. As the Germans you can shoot back with your heavy at rifle grenades. These are now closer to their historical effectiveness and replace the Panzerfaust 30 in German tank hunter kits. They have slightly lower damage and penetration, but longer range, more ammunition and still come with a rifle as side-arm, making this one of the most versatile kits ingame.

These changes together will make Operation Cobra a totally new experience for tank connoisseurs and flyboys alike!

  12. New update is out:

Hello and welcome back to another update of Forgotten Hope 2.

Today we are proud to reveal our second map that will be featured in the upcoming patch. This time, you will find yourself not in the hot sandy deserts of northern Africa, but in the cold desolate forests of northern Europe. The map St. Vith was made by Otolikos.
